1. The Solar System consists of :
- The Sun
- Natural satellites
- Planets
- Asteroids
- Meteors
- Comets
The Sun
- The Sun is the centre of the Solar System.
- The Sun is a star because it gives out light and heat. It is the only star in the Solar System.
- The Sun is the biggest object in the Solar System.
- All the eight planets are moving around the Sun each following its own oval path called orbit.
- The bigger the orbit of the planet, the longer time will be taken by the planet to revolve around the Sun.
Natural satellites
- Natural satellite are natural objects that moves around the planets.
- All the planets in the solar systems have natural satellites except Mercury and Venus.
- The Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth and it is smaller than the Earth. It orbits around the Earth and Sun.
- The Moon does not produce light but it reflects the light from the Sun.
- The table below shows the number of natural satellites for every planets :
Planet | Number Of Natural Satellites |
Mercury | - |
Venus | - |
Earth | 1 |
Mars | 2 |
Jupiter | 16 |
Saturn | 21 |
Uranus | 15 |
Neptune | 8 |
