The Solar System

The Constituents of the Solar System  

1. The Solar System consists of :
    • The Sun
    • Natural satellites
    • Planets
    • Asteroids
    • Meteors
    • Comets 



              
               The Sun 
    1. The Sun is the centre of the Solar System.
    2. The Sun is a star because it gives out light and heat. It is the only star in the Solar System.
    3. The Sun is the biggest object in the Solar System.
    4. All the eight planets are moving around the Sun each following its own oval path called orbit
    5. The bigger the orbit of the planet, the longer time will be taken by the planet to revolve around the Sun.


               Natural satellites
    1. Natural satellite are natural objects that moves around the planets.
    2. All the planets in the solar systems have natural satellites except Mercury and Venus
    3. The Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth and it is smaller than the Earth. It orbits around the Earth and Sun.
    4. The Moon does not produce light but it reflects the light from the Sun.
    5. The table below shows the number of natural satellites for every planets :
